Have you heard of Blu-Ray? Its one of the latest technologies of the 21st Century. Blu-Ray is just a disc, like your CD-R or DVD-R. But Blu-Ray discs have a very distinct difference as compare to other media types. That difference is the Blu-Ray discs have a huge storage capacity of between 25GB to 50GB per discs and its gaining more storage space as time to come.

Due to the fact that there is so much storage space, they are able to get more memory on there and give you cleaner clearer movies, and music. It's also great for storage of data. You can use them to back up data in case your hard drive crashes.

Looking at storage space, the average hard disk has about 120 GB of open memory. A blue Ray disc has some were around 25 to 50 GB. It would only take about five discs to store everything on the average hard drive. If you are using rewritable DVDs, it would take 53 of those discs.

There are lots of DVD players that are blu ray compatible. The other thing is many of the new DVD releases are in the blu ray format. Of course the cost of little bit more but they are awesome.

So, at the end of the day, what is Blu-Ray player compatibility, and what does it mean to you? Well, Blu-Ray is like a high-definition movie on a DVD. If you have a high-definition television, you can take advantage of its capabilities by hooking it up to a Blu-Ray player using a high-definition video cable. Now, when a Blu-Ray movie is inserted, the viewing experience will be in true high-definition.

What is HD, anyway? Basically, a normal television show or movie contains around 400,000 "pixels", which are the little colored dots that, when viewed from a distance by the human eye, make up a bigger image. Well, when watching something in HD (such as when using a Blu-Ray player), you're viewing over 2 million pixels!

Long story made short, you could set 4 standard, televisions side-by-side, and put together, they still wouldn't show as many pixels of the movie as one Blu-Ray capable television.

So now you see what a blu ray disc player is and what the technology can do. If you are a big enthusiast and love to watch video and our big guns clarity, this may be something that works for you. But the thing you need to remember is it won't matter if you have a blue Ray disc player if you do not have a high quality or HDTV. Make sure that your entire video system supports clean and clear quality.
